Twitch’s daily viewership is growing, as per the State of Stream study from StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg.

With Twitch’s recent leadership decisions and the rise of competitors like Kick, this comes as good news for the livestream platform.

  • Daily hours went from over 55 million in March to 56.9 million in June. The State of Stream study notes that just measuring Twitch hits month-over-month “can be misleading,” that’s why they choose to measure daily viewership hours. 

  • In June, the top 10,000 streamers were responsible for 76% of the hours watched. As the study notes, “those in the top 1% and less are attracting a lot of eyeballs.” 

  • The streamer ironmouse set a new benchmark for both VTubers and women streamers by reaching around 205k subscribers and securing a spot in Twitch’s top 10. 

  • In related Twitch news: an AI-generated version of popular streamer xQc garnered 11k followers in two weeks. This version seems to be a bot made without the involvement of the real xQc streamer, who has 12 million followers on Twitch.

Podcasts that welcome celebrities are shifting the conversations they have to respect the on-going writers’ strike, Ashley Carman of Bloomberg shares.

From The Verge to The New York Times, questions are pouring in about what the Writers Guild of America and SAG strike might mean for podcasts. 

  • Quick refresher: The New York Times and The Verge covered how the writers’ strike might impact podcasts, especially when it came to TV rewatch podcasts. Amrita Khalid of The Verge confirmed that while the current rewatch podcasts are here to stay, viewers shouldn’t “expect any new ones.”

    • The union shared that new contracts for any rewatch podcasts plus rewatch podcasts not currently under a SAG-AFTRA contract are strictly off-limits.

  • Carman’s curiosity centers around the question: how will podcasts that book guests from behind-the-scenes on popular movies and TV shows go about discussing their work, in light of writers’ strike?

  • Sam Fragoso of Talk Easy shares that he is planning to platform writers from these productions, to discuss the strike. Additionally, Sam Sanders of Into It said the show is looking to “cover culture through a different lens.” 

  • On a related note: The Publish Press spoke with Tyler Chou, The Creators’ Attorney, on how creators should navigate this strike and why they should stand with SAG-AFTRA.

  • On August 2, Hala Taha, the host of the Young and Profiting podcast, is hosting a webinar on mastering the art of cross-channel podcast campaigns. 

  • On August 16, the NYC Podcasters: Summer Session is happening in Queens. Tickets start at $65.

  • The British Podcast Awards have changed their ticket pricing for the upcoming award ceremony. New ticket prices are based on the size of the company – small, medium, or large. The awards ceremony will be held on September 28.

The branded podcast production agency Quill shares insights and anecdotes on how branded podcasts can increase brand awareness, consideration, and purchase intent.

  • In the podcast world, Oppenheimer was more talked about than Barbie, as per data from Podchaser. In the July 15th-22nd time period, the Christopher Nolan movie was mentioned 4,020 times while Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was mentioned 3,021 times.
  • Meta’s Reels are growing, in terms of views per day on Facebook and Instagram. As of Q2 2023, Reels enjoyed 200 billion views per day.
  • YouTube’s Kai Chuk is welcoming questions on podcasting. A select few of these will be addressed during Ausha’s interview of Kai Chuk, at Podcast Movement happening later this month.
  • Spotify released a Super Listeners study for musicians on the platform. The study positions the super listeners as a new audience segment for artists to target.
